GRP Seizes Hundreds of Turtles, Suspects Smuggling to Bangladesh
Imagine someone was trying to sneak a bunch of turtles across a border, maybe to sell them.
The police at a train station found 268 turtles hidden in bags on a train.
Sadly, some of the turtles had already died.
The police think the turtles were being transported from Uttar Pradesh and were meant to go to Bangladesh.
Now, the police are working with the forest department to figure out what to do with the live turtles and the ones that died.
GRP at Malda Town station seized 268 Ganges soft-shell turtles.
The turtles were found in a general compartment of the Farakka Express.
Around 90 turtles were found dead in the gunny bags.
Preliminary probe suggests the turtles originated in Uttar Pradesh.
