RBI Faces Shortage of Small-Denomination Currency Notes
The All-India Reserve Bank Employees Association (AIRBEA) has told the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) that there is a big problem with not having enough small money notes like ₹10, ₹20, and ₹50.
This is especially bad in smaller towns and villages.
The RBI is supposed to make sure there are enough notes and coins for everyone.
They have been trying to get people to use digital money instead of paper money, but this has made the problem worse.
ATMs and banks don't have enough small notes, so people have to buy them from illegal sellers at a higher price.
The AIRBEA wants the RBI to start giving out more small notes and coins through banks and special events called 'coin-melas'.
The All-India Reserve Bank Employees Association (AIRBEA) has highlighted an acute shortage of small-denomination currency notes in the country.
Semi-urban and rural areas are the worst affected by this shortage.
The RBI has been promoting digital transactions to reduce dependence on paper currency, exacerbating the issue.
ATMs and commercial bank branches are unable to supply small-denomination notes like ₹10, ₹20, and ₹50.
The AIRBEA has requested the RBI to circulate more small-denomination notes and coins through various outlets and organize 'coin-melas'.
