Telangana PRLIS Source Shift Debate
The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, has warned that the state might change the source of the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS) from the Srisailam reservoir to the Jurala project.
This is because the project is facing difficulties in getting the necessary approvals from the central government or due to objections from Andhra Pradesh.
Revanth Reddy said that Telangana can take up to 70 tmc ft of water from Jurala without any legal or technical problems.
He also accused the previous government of making decisions that weakened Telangana's position in sharing Krishna river water and of corruption in the PRLIS project, which led to a significant increase in costs.
The current government has taken steps to ensure Telangana's rightful share of Krishna waters.
However, former Minister and BRS MLA Harish Rao denies these allegations, claiming that the Congress party is responsible for significant migration from the Palamuru region and that the Palamuru-Rangareddy project was notably absent from the 11th Schedule.
Rao also highlighted the potential of the Kaleshwaram project to irrigate 5 lakh acres with an investment of just Rs.
200 crore.
Telangana may shift PRLIS source from Srisailam to Jurala if clearances are not obtained or objections are raised by Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asserts Telangana's rights and challenges anyone to stop the move.
Accusations of corruption and cost escalation in PRLIS under the previous BRS regime.
Previous regime allegedly weakened Telangana's position in Krishna water allocation by signing agreements for 299 TMCs of water.
Current government has lodged complaints with the Centre to halt Andhra Pradesh's Rayalaseema project works and highlighted the alleged mismanagement and corruption by the previous BRS regime.
Former Minister and BRS MLA Harish Rao denies allegations, accusing the Congress party of spreading falsehoods and failing to address local needs during the bifurcation of the state.
