Congress Weighs Konda Laxman Bapuji’s Daughter for MLC Seat
Congress leaders are discussing whether Dr Pavitra Vani should receive one of three special seats in the Telangana Legislative Council.
She is the daughter of Konda Laxman Bapuji, who was a leader in the Telangana movement.
Some party leaders say choosing her would honor her father.
They also say it could recognize the Padmashali community, to which she belongs.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently said one of the seats would go to someone from that community.
Congress leaders think the choice could also help their party compete with the BRS.
The party has not made a final decision.
Senior leaders may recommend a candidate before the decision is made.
Congress circles are discussing Dr Pavitra Vani, daughter of Konda Laxman Bapuji, for one of three Governor-quota MLC seats.
Party leaders say her nomination could honor her father’s role in the Telangana movement and strengthen Congress’s ties with the Padmashali community.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy recently said at a public meeting in Sircilla that one of the seats would go to a Padmashali community member.
