Tamil Nadu Speaker Clarifies MLA Arrest Rules
The Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly, J C D Prabakar, has clarified that there is no need to get his permission to arrest an MLA if it happens outside the Assembly's area.
This comes after the arrest of Vilathikulam MLA G V Markandeyan for making negative comments about the Chief Minister.
The Speaker explained that the Assembly was informed about the arrest and that the rules only require his permission for arrests within the Assembly's jurisdiction, which includes the Assembly Hall, minister's chambers, and other designated areas.
The public had raised questions about the arrest, but the Speaker clarified that no prior permission is needed for arrests outside these areas.
