J-K Plans Major Reforms for Medicinal Plants Sector
The Jammu and Kashmir government is planning big changes to help farmers grow and sell more medicinal and aromatic plants.
These plants can be very valuable, with some selling for up to Rs 1 lakh per kg.
Right now, the region only makes Rs 12 crore a year from these plants, but the government thinks it can make much more.
They are working with different departments and experts to make a plan.
This plan will help farmers learn how to grow these plants, find the best places to grow them, and connect them with markets.
The goal is to make farming these plants more profitable and create jobs.
The government also wants to change some rules to make it easier for farmers to participate.
J-K government plans policy reforms and scientific strategy to boost the medicinal and aromatic plants (MAP) sector.
Current annual earnings from MAP sector are Rs 12 crore, far below national and global potential.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo directed inter-departmental coordination for propagation, training, and market linkages.
28 MAP clusters involving 1,400 farmers established, with over 5,300 farmers trained in the past two years.
Global MAP market projected to surpass USD 650 billion by 2030, offering vast opportunities for J-K.
