Telangana Loses Rs 180 Crore in EV Sops

The Telangana transport department has lost Rs 180 crore in the first nine months of the 2025-26 financial year.

This is because the government gave tax breaks to electric vehicles (EVs) to help more people buy them and reduce pollution.

The department collected Rs 5,142 crore this year, which is less than the Rs 5,324.90 crore collected last year.

Officials say the drop in money is mainly because of the tax exemptions for EVs.

They also collected Rs 181 crore from penalties.

Overall, the department's revenue went down by 17% last year.

The money comes from different places like lifetime taxes, quarterly taxes, and fees.

Recently, a special registration number auction brought in Rs 43.57 lakh, with one number selling for Rs 18 lakh.
