Delhi High Court Rejects Sonam Wangchuk's Discharge Plea
Sonam Wangchuk is an activist who has been on a hunger strike since June 28.
He was protesting at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to demand the resignation of the Education Minister because of a question paper leak.
The government moved him to Safdarjung Hospital, saying his health was bad.
His wife asked the court to let him go to a private hospital, but the court said no.
The court said the government was not being unfair and that Wangchuk would cooperate with the doctors.
Wangchuk's wife said he would stop his hunger strike if politicians promised to talk about education in Parliament.
The protesters plan to march to Parliament on Monday.
The Delhi High Court ruled that the government's action to move Sonam Wangchuk to Safdarjung Hospital was not arbitrary.
Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, requested his immediate discharge to a private hospital, but the court refused.
Wangchuk will end his hunger strike if political leaders promise to raise the issue of education accountability in Parliament.
The court noted that Wangchuk was not in detention and was a free citizen, but the government had the right to act due to his deteriorating health.
Protesters plan to march to Parliament on Monday, with Angmo representing her husband.
