AC Cabin Mandate to Raise Truck Prices in India
Trucks in India are now required to have air conditioning.
This will make trucks a little more expensive (about 1.5%), but companies don't think it will stop people from buying them.
The government made this rule in June, and it applies to trucks of a certain size.
The goal is to make driving more comfortable and improve how much trucks can be used.
One company, Ashok Leyland, is already making trucks with AC, and they saw a drop in sales recently.
Mandatory AC cabins in M&HCVs will increase vehicle costs by 1.5% for consumers.
Ashok Leyland anticipates no slowdown in demand despite the price increase.
The government mandated AC cabins for trucks (7.5-55 tonnes) starting June 8.
Ashok Leyland's domestic MHCV truck sales declined 5% in FY25, with a 10% drop in April.
AC cabins are expected to improve driver productivity and fleet efficiency.
