DRDO, University of Hyderabad Researchers Patent New Rocket Propellant
Researchers in Hyderabad developed a new material called BAM-H24.
The material contains boron, hydrogen and nitrogen.
India’s Patent Office granted a patent for the invention.
It could be used in solid rocket fuel.
It might also be added to fuel or help control how quickly fuel burns.
The researchers say it is stable when heated and less sensitive to impacts and friction.
It does not readily absorb moisture from the air.
These features may help with storage and handling.
More testing is needed before deciding how it can be used in real propulsion systems.
The Indian Patent Office granted Patent No. 599900 for the compound BAM-H24.
Researchers from DRDO and the University of Hyderabad developed the boron-, hydrogen- and nitrogen-rich compound.
BAM-H24 is covered for use as solid rocket fuel, a propellant additive and a burn-rate accelerator.
The material reportedly has chemical and thermal stability, low impact and friction sensitivity, and non-hygroscopic properties.
Further research is needed to evaluate BAM-H24 in specific propulsion systems and practical applications.
