Thadou Tribe Seeks Resumption of Live Radio Broadcasts in Manipur
The Thadou tribe in Manipur wants to bring back live radio shows in their language.
The public broadcaster, Prasar Bharati, is helping by asking for new staff to be hired.
The Thadou people had to leave Imphal because of fights between different groups.
They want to make sure everyone knows they are a separate tribe, not part of the Kuki tribe.
A big meeting was held to talk about peace and how to stop people from mixing up the Thadou and Kuki tribes.
The radio shows are important for keeping their language and culture alive and for making peace in the area.
Prasar Bharati is considering recruiting new staff to resume live broadcasts in the Thadou language on All India Radio (AIR) Imphal.
The Thadou tribe's representative body, Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM), requested the resumption of live broadcasts to preserve their language and culture.
Live programming in Thadou stopped after ethnic hostilities began in May 2023, causing Thadou staff to leave Imphal.
TIM emphasized the importance of distinguishing the Thadou tribe from the Kuki tribe to avoid misunderstandings and tension.
Prasar Bharati confirmed that Thadou programs are currently aired daily from 5 pm to 5.30 pm, consisting of recorded songs only.
