Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill Reviewed After TDP Objection
The Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan (VBSA) Bill is being reviewed again because the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which is part of the ruling coalition, has some concerns.
The TDP doesn't like two parts of the bill (Clauses 45 and 47) that give the central government a lot of power over the new education regulator, the VBSA.
The VBSA would replace some existing education bodies like the UGC and AICTE.
The TDP thinks this bill would make state governments have less control over their universities.
So, the joint parliamentary committee is taking more time to discuss the bill and talk to state governments before making a final decision.
The Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan (VBSA) Bill is being reviewed due to objections from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
The TDP opposes clauses that empower the Centre to issue binding orders and supersede the VBSA.
The VBSA would subsume the UGC, AICTE, and NCTE, and have a 12-member commission with regulatory, standard-setting, and accreditation councils.
The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) will take more time to discuss the bill and consult with state governments.
The TDP is concerned about the potential weakening of state governments' control over state universities.
