Trader Groups Plan October 2 ‘No UPI Day’ Protest

Trader Groups Plan October 2 ‘No UPI Day’ Protest

Several trader groups in India plan to protest on October 2.

They are calling the protest ‘No UPI Day.’

UPI is a way people and businesses make digital payments.

The groups oppose a proposed 0.04% charge on some merchant transactions.

They say even a small charge could hurt businesses with small profit margins.

They also want clarity about a proposed ₹300 transaction cap.

The Federation of Retail Traders Welfare Association says at least 28 organisations support the protest.

Another chamber says it and its 500 affiliate associations support the campaign, but that does not mean all 500 will attend.

The Confederation of All India Traders says it has not endorsed a nationwide protest.
