GST 2.0 Reforms Predicted to Boost Indian Consumption
India's GST system is being updated to encourage spending.
This is expected to make people buy more things, boosting the economy.
The changes are expected to increase spending by a lot of money, even though the government might collect less in taxes at first.
If the government also lowers income taxes, people will have even more money to spend.
Experts think this is a good way to help the economy grow because people will have more money to buy things, and the government will eventually make more money too.
GST 2.0 is expected to boost domestic consumption in fiscal year 2026.
GST 2.0 is estimated to increase spending by ₹1.98 lakh crore despite an estimated ₹85,000 crore revenue loss.
Combined with income tax cuts, overall consumption is projected to increase by ₹5.31 lakh crore.
The increase in demand is due to increased disposable incomes from tax relief.
The SBI report estimates a net gain with fresh GST revenue generation.
