Airlines Complete A320 Software Upgrades
Airlines in India have finished updating the software on their Airbus A320 planes.
This update was needed because strong solar radiation can sometimes cause problems with the plane's computers, which help control how the plane flies.
The updates were done quickly to make sure the planes are safe.
IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express all completed the updates on their planes.
The problem was found after a real incident in October 2025, and a retired pilot showed how the issue works using a flight simulator.
Now, all the planes have the latest software to prevent any problems.
All airlines have completed software upgrades on their A320-family aircraft to address potential issues related to solar radiation affecting flight-control data.
IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express have upgraded a total of 323 operational A320-family aircraft.
The issue lies within the aircraft’s flight-control computer, known as the Elevator and Aileron Computer (ELAC), which can malfunction during periods of intense solar activity.
The DGCA ordered upgrades after Airbus cautioned that intense solar radiation may corrupt data critical to the functioning of flight controls.
The updates were completed within the required timelines, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
