Niphad Activists Release Stray Dogs Over Civic Inaction
People in Niphad are worried about the growing number of stray dogs.
Protesters said the dogs have chased people and that some residents have been bitten.
They said children, women and older people could be especially vulnerable.
To make officials notice the problem, Yuva Sena workers brought four or five dogs into a government office.
Some dogs were carried in sacks and released on the chief officer’s table.
The protesters asked for sterilisation, vaccination and better systems for catching and managing dogs.
They also used garlands made from currency notes to criticize the civic administration.
Chief Officer Dheeraj Bhamre said the administration would take action and referred to tender proceedings.
Some people supported the concern about dog safety, while others said the protest frightened or mistreated the animals.
Yuva Sena (UBT) district chief Vikram Randhave led a protest at the Niphad Nagar Panchayat office.
Protesters released four to five stray dogs, including puppies, inside Chief Officer Dheeraj Bhamre’s office and on his table.
They alleged that repeated complaints about rising stray-dog numbers, chasing incidents and bite cases had not resulted in effective action.
The protesters demanded sterilisation, vaccination, improved dog-catching arrangements and broader population-control measures.
Bhamre reportedly cited tender proceedings and assured action, while reports differed on whether protesters set a two-day or eight-day deadline.
