AIFF Faces Questions Over Costly Friendlies as Uruguay Tickets Slashed

India’s football federation arranged friendly matches against Panama, Brazil, and Uruguay.

Some federation members questioned why three games were planned and how much they would cost.

One official said the reported total spending was about ₹85 crore.

The federation’s president, Kalyan Chaubey, defended playing Brazil, saying it would be a special experience for players and fans.

Former captain Bhaichung Bhutia had favored playing Asian teams instead.

Many tickets for the Brazil match were reportedly hard to sell, and complimentary passes were given out.

Tickets for the Uruguay match were cut from ₹1,999 to ₹199.

An AIFF official said the matches were meant to raise the team’s profile.
