Teenager Ahana Gupta Builds AI Tutor for Personalized Learning
Ahana Gupta is a student who wanted to help children learn English better.
While volunteering, she noticed some children could repeat sentences but did not always understand or use them.
She made a kit with stories, cards, worksheets, and activities to help them learn.
But the kit still needed an adult to guide each child.
So Ahana began building EchoLearn, an AI tutor that can turn school materials into lessons.
Students can ask questions, pause, or request a different explanation.
The lessons use a voice designed to sound like the student’s own.
The program also checks what students understand and what they may need to review.
Ahana tried it with 19 students and received awards and recognition for the project.
Ahana Gupta, a Grade 12 student in Mumbai, began volunteering as an English teacher in December 2023.
Her experience with students who could repeat English sentences but struggled to explain or use them inspired her interest in personalized learning.
In 2025, she created an activity-based English-learning kit, then explored technology to provide more individualized support.
EchoLearn is a prototype AI tutor that turns students’ uploaded materials into interactive lessons delivered in a voice cloned from the student’s own.
Gupta tested the prototype with 19 students in July 2026; the project won a Gold Crest Award and was shortlisted among the top 200 of 35,000 VIVO Ignite submissions.
