Asian Markets Rise on AI Hopes
On the first day of trading in 2026, many Asian stock markets went up.
Hong Kong's market had a big jump because tech companies like Alibaba and Baidu did well.
Baidu said it plans to spin off its AI chip unit, which made investors happy.
Other markets like South Korea, Australia, Taiwan, and India also saw gains.
This is because people think that artificial intelligence will need more computer chips and other things, which is good for these companies.
In the US, the stock market ended 2025 with some losses, but it still had a good year overall.
The price of oil and some metals also went up.
Asian markets started 2026 with gains, led by a 2.2% jump in Hong Kong's Hang Seng index.
Alibaba climbed 3.2% and Baidu jumped 7.5% after announcing plans to spin off its AI chip unit.
South Korea's Kospi rose 1.5%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 edged up 0.2%, and India's Sensex added 0.1%.
US stock futures advanced, with the S&P 500 future up 0.5% and the Dow Jones future up 0.3%.
Oil prices and precious metals like silver and gold also saw gains.
