Nagaland mandates birth certificates for admissions, jobs
The Nagaland government has made birth certificates the only important paper needed for school admissions, government jobs, and other official things.
This rule started on February 8, 2025.
The government has also set up many places where people can register births and deaths.
If someone needs to register a birth late, they can now do it more easily.
The government also says that no short forms or abbreviations can be used in a child's name on the birth certificate.
Birth certificates are now the sole mandatory document for school admissions, government jobs, and official services in Nagaland.
The Nagaland Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Rules, 2024, came into force on February 8, 2025.
The government has established 1,474 registration centres across Nagaland, with facilities in both rural and urban areas.
Delayed registration beyond one year now requires approval by the district magistrate or an authorized sub-divisional magistrate.
The use of abbreviations in a child’s name on birth certificates is prohibited.
