Shukla's Video Explains Weightlessness and Perpetual Freefall
Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla shared a video explaining why things float in space.
He showed that objects float because the astronaut and the tools are falling around Earth together at the same speed.
Imagine throwing a ball from a mountain; if thrown fast enough, it falls continuously around the Earth without hitting the ground.
This is the basis of orbit and why astronauts feel weightless, even though gravity still exists.
The astronauts and objects are perpetually falling.
Group Captain Shukla demonstrated weightlessness aboard the ISS.
Objects appear to float because they are falling perpetually.
Shukla explained that astronauts and everything around them are constantly falling.
The concept of orbit is derived from Isaac Newton's thought experiment.
Astronauts still experience gravity, but feel weightless due to constant freefall.
