Telangana to Distribute Indiramma Sarees for Bathukamma Festival
The Telangana government is giving out new sarees to 65 lakh women for the Bathukamma festival.
This program is called Indiramma Sarees, named after Indira Gandhi, and replaces the previous BRS government's scheme.
Each woman will receive two sarees made with good quality fabric.
The government ordered 1.3 crore sarees, costing about ₹800 each.
The sarees are being made by handloom workers in Sircilla, who are expected to earn around ₹20,000 per month.
The goal is to give women nice sarees and support local handloom businesses, with the production supervised by the Commissioner for Handlooms and Textiles.
