India Diversifies Exports, Expands Markets and Products
India has been selling more goods and services than ever before.
Instead of just selling jewelry and cotton, it now sells electronics, medicines, and software.
This change happened between 2020 and 2025, when exports grew from about $500 billion to $860 billion.
India is also selling to more countries, like those in Africa and Latin America, not just the US and Europe.
The government and businesses are using trade deals and better logistics to help Indian products reach new buyers and stay strong even if one market has problems.
India’s total merchandise and services exports rose from $498 B in 2020‑21 to $863 B in 2025‑26.
Electronics exports grew from $6.26 B to $47.7 B, making up 10.8% of total exports.
Services, especially software and IT, now account for $421 B, the largest share of diversification.
Exports to the EU reached $86 B, 19% of total exports, with deeper penetration into many European countries.
New free‑trade agreements (CEPAs, ECTAs) and global supply‑chain shifts have opened markets in Africa, Latin America, and beyond.
