15,000 Jute Workers Promoted in Bengal Following Tripartite Agreement
Imagine a bunch of workers in jute mills, like factories that make burlap.
Many of them have worked there for a long time.
The government, the mill owners, and the workers' unions all agreed to promote about 15,000 of these workers to better jobs.
To be eligible, they had to have worked for either 15 or 20 years and showed up to work most of the time between 2021 and 2025.
This was part of a deal that was finally put into action.
Some factories weren't following the rules.
Now the government is stepping in to make sure everyone does what they agreed to.
Around 15,000 jute workers in West Bengal have been promoted.
Promotions were to 'special badli' and 'permanent worker' categories.
The promotions followed a tripartite agreement signed on January 3, 2024.
Workers with 15-20 years of service and 70% attendance qualified.
Some mills faced non-compliance issues and potential license cancellations.
