Rajasthan Minister Releases Baby Gharials into Chambal River
Imagine baby crocodiles with long, skinny noses called gharials!
In Rajasthan, a special minister helped release 10 tiny gharial babies back into the Chambal River.
These babies were found when they were very, very small, about the size of your hand.
They were then taken care of in a special place where they were fed and protected, growing bigger and stronger.
This is important because baby gharials are easily eaten by other animals or can get sick when they are young.
By keeping them safe until they are bigger, they have a much better chance of growing up to be adult gharials and helping their kind have more babies.
The minister said they will release more baby gharials in the coming days to help save these unique animals in their river home.
Rajasthan Forest and Wildlife Minister Sanjay Sharma released 10 baby gharials into the Chambal River.
The release took place at the Palighat Gharial Sanctuary in Sawai Madhopur district.
The 10 hatchlings were part of approximately 30 collected and reared in captivity at the Palighat Gharial Conservation and Rearing Centre.
Hatchlings were fed live fish and kept in simulated natural enclosures to prepare them for the wild.
This conservation effort aims to improve the survival rate of gharials and strengthen their population in the ecosystem.
