Qatar-Iran Talks Set Conditions for Strait of Hormuz Reopening

Qatar’s prime minister traveled to Iran to discuss the Strait of Hormuz and regional tensions.

The strait is an important route used by ships carrying oil.

Iran said it would write down conditions that would need to be met before the waterway fully reopens.

Those conditions could include ending the war, removing sanctions and providing economic help.

Iran also said it had agreed with Oman on a possible shipping corridor.

Qatar supports freedom of navigation and has urged efforts to reduce tensions.

The United States says it is not negotiating with Iran right now.

Because the conditions have not been agreed to, it is not clear that the strait will reopen soon.
