NITI Aayog Seeks Tech Firms' Views on Content Blocking Laws
NITI Aayog, a government think tank in India, recently held a meeting with big tech companies and industry groups to discuss how to make India's internet rules simpler.
They talked about how quickly social media companies should remove bad content, how to protect data, and how to keep the internet safe.
The government wants to make these rules easier to follow.
Tech companies might push back because they think the new rules are too strict and hard to follow.
The think tank will send their suggestions to the IT Ministry, but the Ministry might not agree with all of them.
NITI Aayog sought views from tech firms on simplifying India's content blocking and transparency timelines.
The meeting discussed regulatory issues including social media laws, cybersecurity, data protection, and online gaming.
Tech industry bodies like Nasscom, CII, IAMAI, and BIF participated in the meeting.
Social media platforms must now remove problematic content within 2-3 hours, down from 24-36 hours.
Meta expressed concerns that the new takedown timeline might be challenging to comply with.
