Bank Deposit Growth Hits 7-Quarter Low

Bank Deposit Growth Hits 7-Quarter Low

Bank deposit growth in India has slowed down to its lowest point in seven quarters.

In the period from July to September 2025, deposits grew by 9.9%, which is less than the 11.7% growth seen in the same period last year.

Big city branches of banks saw a smaller increase in deposits compared to rural and semi-urban areas.

Public sector banks had a slight increase in their share of deposits, while private sector banks saw a decrease.

The growth in long-term deposits (like those for 1-3 years) was lower, but there was a higher growth in current and savings accounts.

Many people are now putting their money in deposits that earn less than 7% interest.
