Malad Retiree Loses ₹89.80 Lakh in Digital Arrest Scam

A 72-year-old man in Mumbai was allegedly tricked by people pretending to be police officers.

They told him that his bank card was connected to serious crimes.

The callers used fake documents and threatened to arrest him.

They also told him not to speak with anyone about the case.

Believing the threats, he moved money from his fixed deposits to four bank accounts.

He allegedly sent a total of ₹89.80 lakh between August 29 and September 10.

The callers later demanded another ₹39.80 lakh.

When they stopped answering, he contacted the cybercrime helpline and reported the alleged scam.
