Mishra Commission submits BC quota report for local bodies

Mishra Commission submits BC quota report for local bodies

A special group of people in Andhra Pradesh has been studying how to make sure communities known as Backward Classes get a fair number of seats in local government.

The group is led by Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, and it talked to many associations and collected information.

A big rule from the Supreme Court says that reservations must be based on real facts and numbers, not just guesses.

The group finished its report and gave it to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday.

The report suggests that the number of reserved seats should depend on how many Backward Class people live in each village, town or district.

A place with many Backward Class people would get more reserved seats than a place with fewer.

The group also made sure that all reservations together would not go over half of the total seats.

Now the government will study the report and decide whether to bring a new law.

The new law could give around 34 per cent of local body seats to Backward Classes, as promised in the election agenda.

Everyone is waiting to see what happens next.
