WHCA defends press freedom at dinner

The White House Correspondents' Association held its annual dinner where the outgoing president, Weijia Jiang, defended press freedom.

She spoke about the importance of the First Amendment and the role of a free press in democracy.

Jiang also mentioned the recent attack on President Trump and how it highlighted the vulnerabilities of democracy.

The incoming president, Jackie Heinrich, echoed the commitment to pursuing facts without fear or favor.

President Trump attended the event, praised the Secret Service, and acknowledged the role of the press in public life, though he also criticized some sections of the media.

The dinner honored journalists and a Secret Service officer wounded in the attack.
