Lavrov Blames US for Failed Putin-Trump Talks, Kremlin Urges Ukraine Negotiations
Imagine two leaders who were supposed to talk but couldn't.
Russia's top diplomat, Mr. Lavrov, said it was America's own problems that stopped a meeting between President Putin and President Trump.
He also said that Russia is still willing to talk, but only if it's based on what they agreed on before, like concerns about Ukraine joining a club called NATO and changes in some areas.
Meanwhile, another Russian official, Mr. Peskov, said that Ukraine will eventually have to talk with Russia to end the fighting.
He warned that the longer Ukraine waits to talk, the less favorable the deal will be for them.
Russia says it wants peace but will keep fighting if needed to stay safe.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov blamed US internal disagreements for the failure to hold a Putin-Trump meeting in Budapest.
Lavrov stated Russia is ready for another summit if based on outcomes of the Alaska Summit, including concerns over Ukraine's NATO bid and territorial changes.
The Kremlin believes Ukraine will have to negotiate with Russia 'sooner or later' from a progressively weaker position.
Russia expresses openness to a political and diplomatic settlement but will continue fighting to protect its security if peace is not achieved.
Hungary is considered a potential neutral ground for discussions between Washington and Moscow due to its open dialogue with Russia.
