Sean Baker Advocates for Theatrical Windows Amid Netflix-WB Merger
Sean Baker, a famous filmmaker, talked about movies and theaters at a big film festival.
He said that people should go to theaters more because it's important for movies to be seen on a big screen.
He also said that he was surprised by how much money was spent on promoting his movie, Anora, for awards.
Baker won four Oscars for Anora and said he won't make very big studio movies.
He plans to make movies similar in size to Anora.
He also talked about editing another movie called The Left Handed Girl, which is Taiwan's entry for the 2026 Oscars.
Baker believes that younger people, like Gen Z, are starting to appreciate going to theaters again.
Sean Baker emphasized the importance of theatrical experiences and urged filmmakers to protect them.
Baker was surprised by the $18 million budget spent on Anora's awards campaign by Neon.
He plans to maintain a 100-day theatrical window for his next film.
Baker won't pursue large-scale studio films and will continue making movies similar in size to Anora.
He recently finished editing The Left Handed Girl, Taiwan's 2026 Oscar entry.
