Smartphone Shipment Forecast for 2025 Revised Downward
The forecast for how many smartphones will be shipped in 2025 has been reduced.
A research company, Counterpoint Research, now thinks not as many phones will be sold as they previously thought.
This is due to worries about tariffs, which are taxes on imported goods, especially those imposed by the US.
The costs of phones might increase because of these tariffs, and people might buy fewer phones as a result.
The company also predicts some areas, like North America and China, will buy fewer phones, but Apple might still grow because of its new iPhone models and because people in growing markets like India are buying more expensive phones.
Counterpoint Research lowered the 2025 global smartphone shipment forecast.
The revised growth forecast is 1.9% compared to the original 4.2%.
Uncertainty around US tariffs is a major factor in the revision.
North America and China are expected to see declines in shipments.
Premiumization in emerging markets supports positive growth for Apple.
