India's Tax Collections Show Mixed Trends
India's tax collections have been weak in the current financial year, growing by only 3.3% compared to the budgeted 12.5%.
This is because both corporate and income taxes are growing slower than expected.
However, the government expects things to improve next year, with taxes growing by about 9.6%.
The tourism sector is also asking for help in the upcoming budget, like simpler tax rules and better financing options.
The government is also planning to reduce its fiscal deficit, which is the amount of money it borrows, to 4.2%-4.3% next year.
The stock market has been going down because of worries about the economy and global issues, but people hope it will recover after the budget.
India's tax collections in FY26 have grown by only 3.3%, much lower than the budgeted 12.5%.
Corporate tax and income tax collections are below budgeted estimates, with GST collections also contracting by 2.0%.
Tax collections are expected to improve in FY27, with gross tax revenue projected to rise by 9.6%.
The tourism sector is seeking structural reforms in the upcoming budget, including simplified GST rules and better financing models.
The government aims to reduce the fiscal deficit to 4.2%-4.3% in FY27, continuing its fiscal consolidation roadmap.
