Darjeeling School Service Commission Revived After 20 Years
The School Service Commission (SSC) for Darjeeling has started working again after being closed for over 20 years.
This is important because there has been a lot of controversy about how teachers are hired in the Darjeeling hills.
The SSC is now in a building called Gorkha Rangamanch Bhavan.
Right now, they are working on giving jobs to 19 people because their family members who were teachers passed away while working.
Before this, the SSC was closed in 2003 because of disagreements about who should control the hiring process.
Some people think the hiring was not fair, and many teachers were hired temporarily without proper pay.
The SSC is supposed to make sure teachers are hired in a fair way, but they are just starting to work again, so it will take some time.
The School Service Commission (SSC) for Darjeeling has been revived after over 20 years of suspension.
The SSC is currently processing appointments for 19 teachers on death-in-harness grounds.
The office is located at Gorkha Rangamanch Bhavan in Darjeeling and has six deputed employees from the GTA.
The SSC's revival comes amid controversy over teacher appointments in GTA schools, which has been taken to the Calcutta High Court.
The SSC's last exam was held in 1999, and the office was suspended in 2003 due to political disagreements.
