Defence Spending Hits Six-Year High
The Defence Ministry in India has spent a lot of money on defence in the first eight months of 2025-26.
This is the highest spending in six years.
The ministry has spent 62% of its capital budget, which is around Rs 1.2 lakh crore.
This increase is due to important deals and purchases made quickly because of Operation Sindoor, which started after a terror attack.
The ministry has also signed big deals for new aircraft and equipment to make the military stronger.
Defence Ministry recorded 62% capital expenditure in the first eight months of 2025-26, the highest in six years.
Capital expenditure until December 2025 reached 80%, around Rs 1.2 lakh crore.
The increase is driven by milestone payments of critical procurement deals and significant acquisitions made through the emergency route during Operation Sindoor.
The ministry has signed several significant procurement deals, including 26 Rafale aircraft for the Navy and 97 Mk1A Light Combat Aircraft for the IAF.
In June 2025, the Defence Ministry signed 13 contracts worth Rs 1,981.90 crore under the Emergency Procurement mechanism.
