MSEDCL to Install Check Meters Amid Smart Meter Complaints
MSEDCL is a company that gives people electricity in Thane.
Some people think the new smart meters are giving them higher bills.
To fix this, MSEDCL will put a second old meter next to the smart meter on about a quarter of the new ones.
They will compare the numbers for a few months to see if the smart meters are right.
People who already complained will also get a second meter.
A local politician, Sanjay Kelkar, asked the company to be clear about how they test the meters.
The company said the smart meters work the same as old ones.
They want to make sure everyone trusts the new system.
MSEDCL will install check meters on 20‑25% of new smart meters in Thane.
Readings from both meters will be compared over 2‑3 months to assess accuracy.
Consumers who filed complaints about high bills will also receive check meters.
The decision followed a meeting with BJP MLA Sanjay Kelkar, who raised concerns about inflated bills and lack of transparency.
MSEDCL Chief Engineer Kakade said smart meters record usage identically to traditional meters.
