Diabetes doubles liver damage risk in India
A big study in India found that people who have both diabetes and a liver condition called fatty liver disease are much more likely to get serious liver damage.
This damage can lead to big problems like cirrhosis or liver failure.
The study looked at 400 people and found that those with both conditions had a much higher chance of getting this serious liver damage compared to those with just fatty liver disease.
Doctors say it's important to check for both conditions early and treat them to keep people healthy.
This is a big concern in India because many people have these conditions but don't know it.
People with both diabetes and MASLD have double the risk of severe liver scarring compared to those with MASLD alone.
The study involved 400 patients with MASLD, 93 of whom also had diabetes.
Advanced fibrosis was found in 34% of patients with both conditions, compared to 16.6% with MASLD alone.
The findings highlight the need for early screening and treatment strategies for both conditions.
Both diabetes and MASLD are common in India, often remaining undiagnosed, posing a significant public health risk.
