Government Exempts Specialised Copper Imports from QCOs
The Indian government has decided to allow the import of special copper products without following the usual quality control rules for one year.
These products, like high-purity copper rods and sheets, are used in cars, electronics, and other industries.
The government made this decision because these products are not easily available in India in the required quality and quantity.
This will help companies that make things like car batteries and generators to buy these products from other countries more easily.
However, the companies will have to plan to make these products in India in the future.
Government exempts imports of specialised copper products from QCOs for one year.
Exempted products include high purity copper rods, strips, sheets, and alloys with rare metals.
Exemption aims to widen supplier base and reduce costs for automotive, electrical, and consumer industries.
Imports allowed for specific end uses and end users, with a requirement to submit indigenization plans.
Beneficiaries include makers of generators, automotive battery packs, and wiring harnesses.
