Odisha to Launch Fund to Protect SC/ST Land Ownership
The Odisha government is setting up a special fund to help people from Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) who might need to sell their land.
The government will buy the land to protect it.
The owners can buy it back later at the same price.
If they don't, the land will be sold to other SC/ST members.
The goal is to stop anyone from forcing these communities to sell their land and to ensure they have a chance to get it back.
Odisha government plans a corpus fund to buy land from SCs/STs facing distress.
The fund aims to prevent vulnerable communities from being coerced into selling their land.
The government will hold the land for 2-3 years, allowing repurchase at the original price.
Unclaimed land will be auctioned, with sales restricted to members of the SC/ST communities.
A high-level committee will finalize the fund's details after stakeholder consultations.
