COAI Raises Concerns Over D2M Broadcasting Tests
The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has asked the government to make sure that the tests for a new way of broadcasting called Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) are fair and include everyone who might be affected.
They say the tests done so far weren't done in the right way and didn't include important things like how the technology affects phones and the people who use them.
COAI wants the government to make sure all the right people, like phone companies and device makers, are involved in the tests.
They also want the tests to look at more than just a few small things, like if the phones get too hot or if there's interference.
They want the tests to look at everything that could be important, like how the technology follows the rules and how well it works in real life.
Some companies, like Tejas Networks, are working on this technology to help more people get access to TV and other content without using the internet.
But COAI says that without proper testing, this technology might cause problems for phone networks and the people who use them.
COAI urges transparent, consultative, and technology-neutral evaluation of D2M broadcasting.
Recent technical tests do not align with the government's envisaged framework.
COAI emphasizes the need for stakeholder participation, including telecom operators and device OEMs.
Tests exclude critical aspects like device certification, EMF compliance, and real-world usage scenarios.
COAI believes comprehensive technical assessments are necessary for safeguarding network integrity and long-term digital growth.
