Navi Mumbai Air Pollution Crisis Sparks Outrage
Navi Mumbai, which has won the 'Second Cleanest City' award for three years in a row, is facing a serious air pollution problem.
A group called Sajag Nagirik Manch is very upset because the air quality is very bad, with high levels of tiny pollutants that can make people sick.
They have asked the city leaders to do something about it.
The group says the city should not just be clean on the outside but also have clean air.
They want the leaders to make a special plan to reduce pollution, check where the pollution is coming from, and punish those who are causing it.
They also want signs that show the air quality in real time and clinics to help people with breathing problems.
The group has even written to the state's chief minister and the central government to make sure air quality is considered when giving out clean city awards.
Navi Mumbai recorded alarming AQI levels of 238 in Belapur and 271 in Nerul on November 27.
Sajag Nagirik Manch submitted a memorandum to NMMC, CIDCO, and MPCB demanding urgent action on air pollution.
The group questioned the city's 'Second Cleanest City' award, stating clean roads do not equate to clean air.
High levels of PM2.5 pollutants are causing health issues, and the Manch accused authorities of negligence.
Demands include an Air Pollution Emergency Action Plan, a NEERI study, and strict enforcement of dust control measures.
