Mesram Clan Treks Through Tiger Reserve
A group of 145 people from the Mesram clan are walking a long journey through a forest with tigers.
They started on December 30 and have walked about 300 kilometers so far.
They believe that tigers won't hurt them because they see tigers as a special god.
They are going to a river called the Godavari to get some special water.
Not as many people are walking this year because some had to stay in school and others didn't want to do the hard walk.
145 members of the Mesram clan trekked through the Kawal Tiger Reserve despite advisories about tiger movement.
The group encountered deer, nilgai, monkeys, langurs, and wild boars but no tigers.
Adivasis believe tigers do not harm them as they worship the animal as a deity called Duvval.
The number of participants decreased this year to prioritize education and due to modern lifestyle influences.
The clan has covered nearly 300 km since December 30 and aims to reach the Godavari river by January 7.
