Chief Justice Vows Punjab High Court Won’t Be Browbeaten

Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra became Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday.

On that same day, the court heard a case about unpaid allowances.

The allowances are called Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief.

A previous court order told the Punjab government to pay pending instalments and arrears.

The new application says some officials may not have followed that order.

The application asks the court to take action for alleged willful disobedience.

Justice Mishra said the court would follow the law.

He also said the institution would not be pressured by tactics.

He said the court would uphold its oath to the Constitution.
