How Vomiting and Diarrhoea Can Disrupt Your Heartbeat

How Vomiting and Diarrhoea Can Disrupt Your Heartbeat

Your heart beats because it gets tiny electrical signals, a bit like a battery sending power to a light bulb.

These signals need special minerals in your body called electrolytes.

The most important ones are potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium.

When you vomit a lot or have bad diarrhoea, your body loses water and these minerals.

If you lose too many minerals, the heart's electrical system can get confused.

The heart might start beating extremely fast.

It could also beat in an unhealthy, uneven rhythm.

A heart doctor named Dr. Bipeenchandra Bhamre explained this.

He says the loss can be so severe that it interferes with how the heart works.

That is why staying hydrated when you are sick is so important.
