Mumbai Railways Fine 233 Ticketless Passengers; Seek Doubled Checking Staff

Some people ride trains without buying tickets, and that costs the railway money.

To stop this, train workers in Mumbai held a special checking day at Diva station.

They found 233 people without tickets and asked them to pay fines.

In total, the fines added up to more than one lakh rupees.

Trains in Mumbai are very busy, with more than 65 lakh passengers riding every day.

Some riders now try to trick inspectors with fake tickets made on phones or computers.

That makes it harder for workers to tell if a ticket is real.

So the railways want to hire many more ticket checkers.

Central Railway and Western Railway both asked for almost twice as many checkers.

The railway also tells passengers to buy tickets on the RailOne phone app to save time.
