News/Media Alliance Slams Google AI Mode as 'Theft'
Google has created an AI feature called AI Mode that answers search questions directly.
The News/Media Alliance, representing many news organizations, is upset because Google uses their articles to answer questions, but users don't always click on the news sites anymore, hurting their income.
They say this is like stealing since Google takes their work without paying them back with traffic or money.
The Alliance wants the government to look into this because Google is so big that news sites can't easily avoid them.
They fear the AI will reduce the value of their work.
News/Media Alliance calls Google’s AI Mode “the definition of theft”.
The Alliance criticizes Google for using publisher content without compensation or traffic.
Google plans to expand AI Mode to all U.S. users.
The Alliance is concerned that AI Mode deprives publishers of traffic and revenue.
The News/Media Alliance represents major publishers, including The New York Times and The Washington Post.
