Neon to Release Palme d’Or Winner 'Accident', Plans Oscar Campaign
A new movie called 'It Was Just An Accident,' made by an Iranian director, won a big award at the Cannes Film Festival.
The company releasing the movie in North America plans to release the movie in October 2025 and try to get it nominated for Oscars.
The movie is about consequences that start from a minor accident.
The director has been critical of the Iranian government and has even been jailed before.
It might be difficult for the movie to be entered as Iran's official entry for the international film category, so the focus will be on other awards.
Because of politics, it is uncertain if the director can even come to the U.S. to support it.
Neon will release Jafar Panahi's 'It Was Just An Accident' in North America on October 15, 2025.
The film is an Iranian production, critical of the government, and won the Palme d’Or at Cannes.
Neon plans an Oscar campaign for Best Picture, Director, and other categories.
The film follows a similar release pattern to Neon's previous Palme d'Or winners.
The film's release and Panahi's ability to support it may be affected by current political events.
