Gaur Reintroduction Planned for Amrabad Tiger Reserve
Imagine a large, wild cow called an Indian gaur.
One of these animals wandered into a tiger reserve in Telangana, India, and the forest department wants it to have some friends.
They plan to move some gaurs from other places in Telangana and a zoo to the tiger reserve.
Officials will visit other places, like a zoo in Karnataka, to learn how to move the gaurs safely.
They'll use a special vehicle designed to transport the gaurs.
The goal is to create a small gaur family in the tiger reserve to provide it with company.
The Telangana forest department plans to reintroduce Indian gaurs into the Amrabad Tiger Reserve.
The tiger reserve will reopen for tourism in October after a three-month monsoon break.
A lone male gaur has lived in the reserve since April 2023.
The reintroduction will involve relocating gaurs from Kinnerasani and Eturnagaram sanctuaries.
Officials are visiting Karnataka to gain experience with gaur translocation.
